My hatred for the Celtics is well-known. In fact, if I saw Larry Bird in the street Id probably kick him in the nuts. Larry Bird ruined my life. Ok fine, maybe not my life but he sure as hell ruined a couple of days in 1987 with the infamous:
“There’s a steal by Bird, underneath to DJ”
Why are they showing Walton clapping on the bench?
They might as well have showed that Boston slappy Bill Simmons in the stands cheering with his dad. He did more for the Celtics that year than a broken down Walton.
Anyways, here’s a video from the 1987 Eastern Conference Finals
Three things in this video:
1) at :22, Birds tries to stomp Laimbeer a la Chris Simon
2) at 2:13, the announcers say “Bird would not have been ejected if he hadnt thrown that ball”. Never mind the fact, that Bird was dropping haymakers at the bottom of the pile.
3) at 4:35, there is a replay of Parrish absolutely drilling Laimbeer in the face in front of a ref(I believe its Jess Kersey).
Parrish doesnt even get a foul let alone a technical foul on this play.
ITS THE WORST NO-CALL IN SPORTS HISTORY!
Parrish literally got two solid shots in clear view of a ref. Can you imagine how many games Parrish would have been suspended in today’s NBA?
Yeah, there was no bias against the Pistons in the late 80s.
A big one finger salute to the NBA for that one
I know this was 20 years ago but I would like nothing more than to take payback for that tonight. It would seem fitting.
1) They are playing in Boston.
2) The teams are 1 and 2 in the Eastern Conference.
3) There has been problems before between the Pistons and Kevin Garnett. Dice and Garnett got into last year and Garnett was actually suspended a game for throwing a punch.
So Flip Saunders, I urge you, take action! Bring Primo Brezec off the bench and let Paul Pierce drive by his man and take him out Bad Boys style!
You owe that to Pistons fans everywhere, and most of all, you owe it to me because you suck ass as a coach.

Only in the context of the NBA would those be considered “solid shots.”
Also, Dice was out of line; I respect Garnett for looking out for his teammate.

I agree with Pat.
NBA’ers are the worst fighters. Larry Johnson, Alonzo Mourning, Shaq, Isiah, Garnett, all down the line.
Why is Antonio’s shortened last name “Dice” and not “Dyess”?

baseball fights are far worse than NBA fights…I can count on my hand the number of good baseball fights there have been…most of the time guys come out of the bullpen and play patty-cake

Please.
Outside of The Malace at The Palace, how many entertaining basketball fights have there been?
Check your Isiah boyfriend card at the door.

just off the top of my head:
The original Malice at the Palace with Barkley and Laimbeer and Scott Hastings
The Knicks-Bulls fight in 94
The time Camby went after some player, forgot who it was and threw a huge haymaker that hit Jeff Van Gundy
Barkley-Shaq, the one where Barkley threw the ball at Shaq’s head
Dr. J/Bird-Dr.J jacked him with punches in the face while Bird was being held back

I guess we have different opinions of entertaining fights then.
Shaq and Barkley was pretty weak.
And, Camby looked like he was throwing a snowball rather than trying to punch someone.
I’ll give you Barkley/Laimbeer and Dr. J and Bird. Don’t remember the Knicks/Bulls fight.

Nolan Ryan beating the snot out of Robin Ventura. Far better than any NBA punch thrown.
Don Zimmer being ‘guided’ to the ground by Pedro. Not a good fight, but possibly the funniest sports fight.

I would like to recall my last post. Kermit Washington’s haymaker on Rudy T was the best punch ever in sports….In my opinion.

Kermit Washington’s punch is in its own league….
it literally could be the hardest punch ever landed

I DETEST the Celtics organization and am not too crazy about Celtics fans- Bill Simmons. Hated Larry Bird growing up and I still do. I would run him over in my car if I ever saw him. I do love KG-happy things are going well for him-finally. Wishful thinking: Pistons beat them tonight by at least 20. As good as Boston is, the Pistons are a very good matchup for them-Sheed/Garnett, Prince/Pierce, and Rip/Allen. Chauncey can take their PG. This game will show a lot about both teams, can’t wait . . . .
