		<description>I think Martz was hired because he was able to run a (once) successful offense with complete autonomy.  Since Rod Verysmelly&#039;s NFL coaching experience consisted of ONLY being a d-line coach/assistant head coach (which I consider to only be a title), the Lions/Verysmelly figured they would need someone who could run an offense on their own.  Thus, Martz was their guy.Because Ford is not going to fire Millen and Millen is going to give Verysmelly more time, Martz was the obvious scapegoat. </description>
