Way too much is being made of Kelly Tilghman’s comment.

Was it 100% appropriate? No. Does she deserve to be publicly ridiculed/punished? Not in my opinion.

Shoot, Eldrick is only 1/4 black anyway.

    Some people are too sensitive.

Poor choice of words, thats for sure….

If I were her employer, Id give her a warning….if she said something dumb like that, Id probably suspend her….

I heard somebody say this was equivalent to the Don Imus faux pas and I totally disagree..

I think this is worse than the Imus thing. What Imus said, in some way, was part of the pop culture vernacular. Apparently, he just wasn’t allowed to use it. I don’t think he knew the apparent land mine he was stepping on.

Here, what did she think she was saying? What do you think of when you hear the term “lynch” (don’t say Kevin Garnett)? I don’t necessarily think she meant to be malicious, but it was plainly insensitive. I don’t think she needs to be fired, or “lynched” in the polls of public opinion, but I couldn’t believe it when I heard what she said. Apparently, if you played the sport you are hired to comment about, that excuses the general requisite of having a brain.

Ill admit that I didnt know the term “nappy-headed” was derogatory….I thought it was just a saying for people who had bad hair…

but the hos comment is inexcusable especially when referring to amateur college athletes….you wanna call Lil Kim a ho or Britney Spears, fine….Im ok with that

    but women college basketball players?

    why?

as far as Tilghman’s comment, Im looking for an audio or video of it….if you guys find it, let me know

    Poor choice of words, yes.

But, had she said that others need to find Tiger in a back alley and “beat him down”, comparisons could have been made to Rodney King.

A warning would suffice for me. Because of her willingness to quickly apologize and her friendship with Tiger, I think a bit too much was made of it.

Shoot, any time now Chris will jump on here with some “shu shu hush shuu shuu’s” about Johnny and we know he isn’t racist. He may be the town simpleton, but he isn’t racist.

But she’s a broadcaster. What was she hired for other than her choice of words? I agree she shouldn’t be burned at the stake, and don’t automatically assume that she is a racist. She’s just a dummy and a poor broadcaster. When in her position, you can’t (or at least shouldn’t) make statements this likely to touch on historic social sensitivities. This would be like suggesting pitchers put Shawn Green in an oven. The analogy is just too close/too extreme/over the line.
