This is my one useful post this week for the non-sports crowd.
How do you find free songs on the internet? Sure you could peruse Limewire or even get on a torrent. However, I think we all know that Limewire creates a multitude of problems with computers which include a ton of spyware…
And torrents, well, they might be too difficult to understand for the non-technical computer user.
The most safe way to find MP3s on the internet is to hack into open directories. Don’t worry, this isnt the hacking you are thinking of. This is perfectly legal.
Using different search strings on Google you can yield thousands of results for songs, artists, etc….
I wont get into the technical aspect of this, because frankly, no one cares. You just want free music.
Type these search strings into Google
-inurl:htm -inurl:html intitle:”index of” “Last modified” mp3
this will yield results of most recently modified directories with mp3s in them
-inurl:htm -inurl:html intitle:”index of” mp3 “beatles”
this will yield results of beatles songs or albums
Get the idea…change the part in quotations….
You can also try this search string, although essentially you will get the same results
intitle:index.of + “mp3″ + “band name” -htm -html -php -asp
replace band name with the group of your choice
These are very simple search strings. You can use more advancted strings by adding dates, different servers, etc…
Here are some links if you need more help…also, props to Dan for reminding me about this….I just assumed people knew how or just used iTunes.
