Sex, Lies, and Text Messages

More from A. Isaac

Even though this is primarily a sports blog, its hard to not delve into the local scene every once in awhile.

And the local scene lately is all-Kwame, all the time. For those of you not from the area or have not been paying attention to the news, Ill give you a short synopsis.

It was recently discovered that the Mayor of Detroit(Kwame Kilpatrick) sent illicit text messages to his chief of staff even though he is married. I know, I know, this sounds like some slimy politician sex scandal but trust me, its more than that.

In an August 2007 court case, two former bodyguards of Kilpatrick were suing him under the Whistleblower law. They believed he fired them because the bodyguards were investigating his personal life.

So what does this have to do with the text messages you ask?

Everything.

Under oath, when asked about an alleged affair both Kilpatrick and the chief of staff lied. When asked about text messages that were sexual in nature, they both said nothing like that occurred. The jury also believed that Kilpatrick lied on the stand and awarded the plaintiffs a substanial amount of money. Later, Kilpatrick settled for 8 million dollars but the cost of everything including legal bills totaled 9 million.

The city of Detroit paid that money. The citizens of Detroit paid that money. The taxpayers paid that money

Several times he was instructed by his counsel to settle this earlier but his pride was too much and instead he lied under oath.

This is the article from the Free Press that broke it wide open.

I dont really know what else to add. I mean, nobody and I mean nobody should have voted for this guy a second time around. He was an embarrassment before this all went down and now, well, put it this way, it cant get any worse.

If you voted for him and you are reading this, you should be ashamed of yourself.
If you believed he was going to change and he deserved a second chance, you should be ashamed of yourself.
If you believe he shouldnt resign Monday Morning, you should be ashamed of yourself.

Detroit is important to whole State of Michigan and if Detroit suffers, we all suffer. If we continue to let moronic politicians run the city, then we might as all just move elsewhere. Yes, that includes those of us in the suburbs.

A recall election is in order. Who’s with me?

The citizens of Detroit deserve what they get. They wanted him; they lost 9 MILLION DOLLARS. Let’s see if the people of Detroit learn anything. If history has anything to say, I doubt it.

Huge embarassment. HUGE. (Also, he played college football, if you need further reason to include this story on your “sports” blog.)
