Today marks the 11th year anniversary of one of the best moments in Detroit Sports History….
Whether you are a Red Wing fan or not, you couldn’t help but crack a smile when Lemeiux turtled on the ice and Patrick Roy got clotheslined by Shannahan

I admit it, if it weren’t for Madd Dogg, I wouldn’t give 2 number 2s about hockey. So, no, I don’t know too much about the game or the applicable decorum. I will say, I was living in Detroit, and not under a rock, during the whole Draper thing, and the aftermath.
With all that said, how was McCarty’s hit not a total cheap shot? Lemeuix was/is a prick, dealt out cheap shots himself, and thus had it coming. I understand he’s a brusier/enforcer and, as the announcer said “I guy you like to have on your side,” but, come on – that was cheap.
Also, P-Wah definately falls into the same caterogy as Lemeuix, but I think more highly of him for coming out, literally to help/protect Lemeuix after the cheap shot and ensuing pummeling.

It probably was cheap but I think because of what Lemieux did to Draper, he was expected to man up if somebody challenged him to a fight….
in fact, this was Lemieux’s MO…cheap shot somebody and when somebody challenged him, he turtled or turned his back

Not his Mo Ager or his Mo Vaughn, but his modus operandi.

One of the best fights and rivalries of all time. I think it was all justified cheap or not. I loved Shanny flying through the air on Roy!
