Did you see Semi Pro? Well, you’re not alone in answering “no” to that question. But I did. And I will forever remember Rocky the Bear as making one of the only humorous contributions to the film, as seen in the video below. Anyway, Rocky the Bear just killed a man.
A grizzly bear that appeared in a recent Will Ferrell movie killed a 39-year-old trainer with a bite to his neck Tuesday and had to be subdued with pepper spray.
Three experienced handlers were working with the bear at Randy Miller’s Predators in Action facility when the bear bit 39-year-old Stephan Miller on the neck, said San Bernardino County sheriff’s spokeswoman Cindy Beavers. Stephan Miller is Randy’s cousin, she said.
The center’s staff used pepper spray to subdue and contain the bear and there were no other injuries, she said.
Calls seeking comment from Randy Miller, a stuntman and operator of Predators in Action, were not immediately returned Tuesday evening. Randy Miller doubled for Ferrell in the bear wrestling match, according to the center’s site.
In a February interview, Randy Miller called Rocky “the best working bear in the business,” the San Bernardino Sun reported on its Web site Tuesday.
The Department of Fish and Game will decide the bear’s fate after an investigation, Tiffany Swantek, a spokeswoman for the Big Bear Sheriff’s Station, told the San Bernardino Sun Tuesday.
Decide the bear’s fate? How about you just let his fate be…oh, I don’t know, TO GO BE A FING BEAR IN THE WILDERNESS? Maybe we shouldn’t get mad at a bear when we try to make him into some trained animal when all he wants to do is eat salmon, steal picnic baskets, and scratch his anus on large trees. It’s like when you try to train a woman, then you get surprised when she does things like “vote” and “go shopping”. Sure, you can do all you can, but an animal’s just going to revert to instincts sometimes.
I think people need to speak up and not let this overly powerful Department of Fish and Game take Rocky the Bear from us. He was led on! And hungry! Fuck, I’d maul a trainer if I hadn’t eaten lunch by 2PM. SAVE ROCKY THE BEAR! SAVE ROCKY THE BEAR!

Rocky is hopefully out of their jurisdiction as he is considered a domesticated animal and will hopefully be allowed to live out his remaining years at a well run sanctuary or on the training farm. Grizzlies form loving bonds with their trainers. Bart the Bear was a perfect example. Rocky was maturing and could have been experiencing a case of raging hormones (as in severe PMS) and probably got rambunctious and “attacked” as a form of aggressive play fighting. I am so concerned that I already e-mailed my “Save Rocky” e-mail to California Fish and Game. This surely was not an intentionally fatal attack and adds to the tragedy. Researchers are finding bears to be as intelligent as the great apes and emotionally complex. Thanks to precious Knut, I have become an avid bear fan. I have donated my art on WEBSHOTS (karenvstefanini) for fundraising for them–especially to ban horrid bear bile farms and bear baiting. Animals Asia is doing a great job at trying to rescue abused bears from bile farms, etc. These magnificent and endearing creatures are misunderstood and abused all over the world. Please encourage others to contact the Fish and Game people as well as Randy Miller and encourage sparing Rocky’s life. Please, let’s not allow him to be euthanized.

rocky is a beautifull animal and has never shown aggression before and he didnt mean to harm his trainer in anyway. and im sure his trainer would not want him to be put down.
