For the love of God Gary, will you just retire and end these shenanigans. You’re going to do a lot more harm than good. And really, the only reason you’re sticking around is because Jim “I can’t manage a bullpen” Leyland gets on his knees for you.
WOI contibutor, The Bus, over at Empty Coconuts had this to say about Sheffield…
Who wants Sheffield?……..Anyone?………Bueller?…………
Gary Sheffield has been on a rehabilitation assignment in Lakeland, Florida. He has been on the Disabled List since May 28, with a strained oblique muscle. Reports say he could join the Tigers as early as Tuesday. The question we have here at Empty Coconuts is, do the Tigers want Gary Sheffield back? One of the major problems that the Tigers face is squeezing Sheffield back into their every day lineup. Clearly, this team has been playing exceptional baseball without him, winning 12 of their last 15 games. Where do you put him in this lineup? He cannot hit in the top half of the batting order. The 3,4, and 5 spots (Guillen, Ordonez, Cabrera) are set and not subject to change. Marcus Thames has been on an absolute tear and deserves to be hitting behind, and protecting Miguel Cabrera in the 6 spot. That leaves a very proud player in Sheffield hitting 7th, at best in this lineup.
Couldn’t agree with The Bus more. Give the article a read and you’ll have a new found dislike for Sheff.
