Plus, this finally opens the door for Inge to be an everyday player. This is the shot of energy, athleticism, and pure power that the team needs. I think we can all agree on that. Am I right, Tim?

I wouldn’t say that the Yankees got the better of this trade yet. Both teams filled a big need. Obviously, Pudge is a bigger name, but I would argue that the Tigers needed a decent reliever in Farnsworth, more than the Yankees needed Pudge.
The Yankees got an aging player who is hitting .295, but he has a brutal On base percentage .338 and Slugging Percentage .417. I’m sure Yankee fans will love him after they realize that he doesn’t walk and will always swing at an elevated fastball for strike 3.
As we know, the Tigers desperately need bullpen help. I’m not sure that I expect Farnsworth to be the savior, but he should be an upgrade. He hasn’t allowed a run in his last 10 outings, and hasn’t allowed a hit in 8 of those 10 outings. So, he is pitching well. According to need, I would say that the trade is pretty even.

Pudge isn't an everyday player though. He was splitting time with Brandon Inge before Inge was on the DL, and the plan was to go back to that before this trade. According to sources, that was a huge point of contention for Pudge and it affected the chemistry in the clubhouse.Also, the Tigers will not experience a huge dropoff with Inge behind the plate. There is no doubt that Pudge hits for a better average. But in 20 fewer games, Inge has 4 more homeruns and 1 fewer RBI. His On base percentage is slightly lower, but he has a higher slugging percentage. In short, Pudge's batting average is a soft .295. He doesn't do anything with it. I'm not trying to make a case for Inge, I'm just saying that the Tigers aren't really giving up any production in exchange for a reliever they desperately need.Needless to say, the Tigers bullpen has been neglected all season. Dombrowski had done nothing to improve it, with the thinking that Rodney and Zumaya would shore it up with their return. I think an argument can be made that it became worse when they came back. In my mind, the trade fit really well for both teams. I think this is one of those mutual deals, where neither team really loses.

I can't agree with you here Bus…Pudge is an everyday player and though we believe he is well past his prime, he is still an upgrade over the current Yankees catcher situationFarnsworth will maybe make an impact in half the games the Tigers have left (and thats being generous)…and he's a good reliever but he's not that much of an upgrade over the current members of the staff….
