9/11 REVISITED

More from A. Isaac

I saw a black cat early this morning before I left for work. I’m not one for superstitions but I do find it a little odd…

Last year, when the blog was a bit more personal I wrote about my experience on 9/11/01.

At the time, I was still at MSU…

I woke up that morning at a little past 9. I remember my roommate Pat talking to somebody on the phone.

It was his dad telling him what happened.

He came into my room and said something like “Isaac, a plane hit the WTC, its on TV”

We walked down into our living room area and watched everything unfold. To say the least, we were stunned.

To make matters worse for me, I had a 1020-1140 class with a real ahole named Professor Gray. Normally, I would have skipped the class considering the circumstances but it was an attendance class and this guy was a real stickler for rules.

I left at about 1005 wondering if class would still take place. A friend who lived on Cedar St. walked with me.

We were stopped by at least 10-15 different people, asking us what was going on. Several people that were in classes from 8-950 or 910-10 had no clue what had happened. I felt strange explaining to them that planes had hit the WTC. It didnt even sound right coming out of my mouth.

I almost wondered that if I walked home and stepped into the living room again, that it was just a dream or something.

Reality sunk in when I arrived to class to find only half the people there. At about 1030, we all considered leaving when Professor Gray walked in.

And you know whats odd.

He didnt say a damn word. He taught class like nothing happened. He didnt explain why he was late or anything.

He ran class for the full time. Several people left disgustedly after receiving phone calls from parents and other loved ones.

At the end of the semester, he even counted this class towards your attendance grade.

A damn shame.

After returning home, I found all my roomates in the same position from when I left. Blank expressions on their faces.

We didnt do anything that day. We sat on the porch for awhile and threw around the football.

It was like that for days on campus. I went to the Riv(a bar) on Thursday and I saw people crying when somebody put the anthem on the jukebox.

People were chanting “USA, USA”.

At times, I felt worried because of my ethnicity. My roommates even said as much the same day it happened. There was no telling what anybody was willing to do. People were angry, people were sad, people were frustrated.

I really dont think any of our lives are the same.

Any time I see a plane overheard, I almost always look twice. Thinking, wait, where is that going?

Thats my perspective, what’s yours?
