Every once in awhile, some network gets the crazy idea that mic’ing up a coach during a game is a good idea.
Usually, the network is smart enough to have somebody literally sitting on the dump button just in case something gets through.
During yesterday’s MSU-Kansas CBB game, that person, whoever they may be, failed miserably at their job.
When official Steve Welmer hurt his foot late in the first half, he came to the sidelines to give his explanation to a mic’d up Tom Izzo and company.
The funniest part of this isn’t the “Son of a b” that Welmer drops but rather when CBS tried to cut to something else, they cut to somebody on the MSU bench saying…
“We have to put his ass in a chair at half-court”.
I have no idea who the culprit is on the MSU sidelines but major props for getting a dig in on a ref on national television.
And as for play-by-play man, Verne Lundquist, sorry man. But that’s one miserably feeble attempt at a cover up by saying “Steve Welmer explaining the nature of the injury”.
Hilarious all-around.

Wasn’t an MSU player, it was KU coach Bill Self that said that. It was still coming through Izzo’s mic even though the camera had changed.
