People like to claim that the economy is in the shitter. Well, yeah, it is. But still, there’s a 60% rise in the sales of homegrown marijuana. Yay America!

With the nation’s fiscal health in the tank, homegrown marijuana operations have soared by 60 percent.

Since Oct. 1, the Drug Enforcement Administration has broken up eight hydroponic pot-growing set-ups around the state — with five in the Big Apple.

That compares with five for all of the previous fiscal year.

Growing marijuana hydroponically — in water — is a lucrative business, said John Gilbride, head of the DEA’s New York office.

It is far more potent than the regular stuff — with a pound going for about $5,000 on the street. A pound of grass smuggled in from Mexico goes for $400 to $1,500.

When reached for comment, my stoned neighbor said, “Why this is wonderful news and further proof that the government should consider legalizing marijuana and taxing it!” What? Just because he smokes weed doesn’t mean that his comment was going to be about how awesome the light is when you’re high or how he really relates to Shaggy from Scooby Doo. See? This is what I do here. Blow apart your stereotypes and rock your mind.

In related news, I once smoked way too much weed and ended up eating five cheeseburgers then passed out on the couch watching Dora the Explorer. So, there’s that too. But little kids do at least half that all the time and I don’t see you judging them. Stupid society and your “conventions.”
