The story of Onan in Genesis 38 is often referenced that way. There was an expectation at that time that when a man died, his wife was cared for and his lineage was continued and the offspring inherits the family fortune as the first husband's offspring. So Er, Onan's brother, died. His wife, Tamar, needs to be taken care of and Er's line needs to be protected. It is Onan's responsibility to do that. He knows he isn't going to get the money from his brother's estate but that it will be passed on to the offspring produced from his union with Tamar. What's he do? He pulls out and intentionally prevents his brother's line from continuing. That's a no-no so God reminds Onan in person of what he was supposed to do.
