Getting blood taken is extremely important for our medical health professionals since you never know when you’re going to need a fresh vat of blood. But one bloodmobile in Washington is taking a unique approach to their blood solicitation, offering a pint of beer for every pint of blood you give.
A Washington state blood center is offering donors a deal: Give a pint of blood, get a pint of beer. Cascade Regional Blood Services in Tacoma says its “Give blood, get beer” promotion has worked so well that it’s being expanded.
The News Tribune of Tacoma reported Monday that donors who are at least 21 years old are given a coupon for a free pint of beer.
Cascade’s director of donor resources Dan Schmitt says it’s a fun way to get more donors, and it’s good for the participating businesses as well.
The bad news: The coupon for beer stipulates that you can’t get the beer until four hours after you’ve given blood, eliminating the opportunity for you to get an enhanced buzz by mixing alcohol with less blood in your system. So that’s somewhat unfulfilling. Why doesn’t some intrepid bloodmobile opt to make the same beer for blood offer, but instead of a coupon, just mainline the alcohol straight into the donor’s blood stream? If I’m going to get blood removed from my body, I damn well better get a good high in return. Otherwise you can just go back to stealing it from passed out homeless people. No need to test it, just run it through a pasta strainer. Same difference.
