Ruth Flowers may be pushing 70, but that doesn’t keep her from spinning vinyl in some of France’s hottest clubs. So put you walkers in the air and let’s hear some noise for DJ MamyRock.

Some of you may have listened to the Audio Guyism a few months back when I talked about DJ MamyRock, but word is the scratching granny has recently released a new single and her sets are gaining new fans from all over the world.

MamyRock, the 69-year-old British DJ earning cult status with her leopard-skin tops, gold chains and dark glasses in nightclubs from Paris to Istanbul.

Seriously, how awesome would it be if you went to a club in Paris and told the bouncer you’re here with your grandma…the blinged-out old lady who’s laying down a hot set on the turntables right now? Well apparently this whole phenomenon was her grandson’s idea.

“MamyRock” first emerged after her husband’s death, when she discovered at her grandson’s birthday party that “they don’t have games such as pass the parcel nowadays. They have disco. It was very loud and very flashy, flashy, flashy lights. I was struck by all the joy they were getting from this music and all the energy and I said to my grandson, ‘Nana could do this.’ He said, ‘That would be so cool’.”

I dunno a lot of older ladies that would put down their knitting needles long enough to hit the Europe club scene. My grandmas do volunteer work at the church. Even when I bought them a turntable and those Kanye West sunglasses, they still didn’t want to play Leo DiCaprio’s birthday party. They just wanted to go to the Old Country Buffet, watch The Ghost Whisperer and go to bed early. Some grandmas just don’t understand the music biz today; you gotta spin it to win it octogenarians. Now throw on some Van Halen and play me out grandma!
