Leonardo DiCaprio part of a multi-million dollar investment in Mobli
Leonardo Dicaprio joins Ashton Kutcher as a wealthy celebrity who thinks investing in innovative tech startups is a good idea as it’s been announced that he is a part of a $4 million seed round for Mobli.
“Mobli allows people from all over the world to share moments,” says DiCaprio, who will take on an advisory position at Mobli. Here’s how Mobli works: Users take photos and videos and the app automatically tags each image with a location (courtesy of Foursquare’s API) or major event in the vicinity. Users can also write tags like “sports” or “football” or “New York Giants.” This tagging system makes it possible to follow specific users, locations and topics. Images for any keyword or place can also be located through search.
DiCaprio is not only now an owner, he is also a client. Sort of. He’s used Mobli himself only seven times (which garnered him a staggering 8,000 followers), while his foundation has posted 24 times. Those 31 posts, however, have accounted for 163,244 “media views” which helps explain why he might find the company worth investing in. Plus Paris Hilton and David Arquette are avid users of the service and you’re not going to find two better endorsements than that.
