Peanut allergies are no laughing matter, as actress Riley Keough learned while working with Andrew Garfield on the 2018 film Under the Silver Lake.
According to Keough, during the production of the film, there was a day on set when she was supposed to have a kissing scene with her co-star (and perhaps the world’s worst liar) Andrew Garfield.
As Keough was getting ready in her trailer, she was snacking on a granola bar. One eagle-eyed makeup artist, however, noticed that the granola bar had peanuts in it and immediately signaled the alarm as Garfield is “very allergic” to them.
“It was actually very stressful. I was in the makeup trailer and I was eating a granola bar or something, and I was about to shoot a scene where I have to kiss Andrew. And the makeup lady was like, ‘Are there peanuts in that?’ And I was like, ‘I think. I don’t know.’ She ran away and got a producer who was a friend of mine,” Keough recalled.
“The producer came in and was like, ‘Riley, Andrew’s very allergic to peanuts and we have to shut the set down. It shouldn’t have been at craft, and I don’t know why they’re on set. It was just kind of like, ‘Oh fuck, that’s crazy.’ But also thank God that this woman caught it, because I had no idea.”
Given that they had to shut down the entire set, there’s no telling what might have happened if Keough’s peanut-coated lips made their way onto Garfield’s mouth.
After making is his long-awaited return as Spider-Man in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, Garfield starred in the Hulu series Under the Banner of Heaven last year.
Currently, the 39-year-old Oscar nominee is attached to star in the romantic drama We Live In Time alongside fellow Academy Award nominee Florence Pugh, which will be directed by The Goldfinch director John Crowley.
As for the 34-year-old Keough, she most recently starred in a duo of series on Amazon Prime Video: The Terminal War alongside Chris Pratt and Taylor Kitsch in 2022 and Daisy Jones & the Six this year. She’s also set to star in the upcoming crime thriller series Under The Bridge on Hulu.
On the film side of her career, Keough has recently featured in projects such as Zola, The Devil All The Time, and The Guilty.
