8 of the best movie face-offs of all time
Having an action movie without a good face-off “mano-a-mano” is like having a computer without a hidden porn folder; completely useless. Movie fights can make or break all the story, dialogue and character development that led up to them. And unfortunately, some suffer due to their lack of violence. Have you ever seen Charlie and the Chocolate Factory? Personally, I feel there was a missed opportunity for Charlie and Mr. Wonka to fight to the death using oompa-loompa loaded cannons. But, I digress. Here are some of the best movie face-offs of all time. -Jason Epstein

8 Castor Troy vs. Sean Archer in 'Face/Off'
Who could have a list about face-offs without including the movie Face/Off, known for its crazy characters, crazy plot, crazy fight scenes and of course, its crazy double entendre title. Castor becomes Sean and Sean becomes Castor through face-removal technologies that we somehow still haven’t mastered 15 years later. Then, they wreak havoc on each other’s lives before eventually wreaking havoc on each other’s, you guessed it: faces.

7 Todd 3465 vs. Caine 607 in 'Soldier'
Soldier wasn’t a very cerebral film, but it had some really ruthless violence (which can redeem any flawed action flick), the best of which occurs during the last face-off between Todd and Caine. What fight scene that involves eye gouging, a helicopter blade and a rainstorm doesn’t deserve to be watched with feverish attention? This is the best match up of beefy men since the gay 80s porn Manhunt: The Kielbasa Chronicles came out on VHS.

6 Rocky vs. Drago in 'Rocky 4'
This is a powerhouse battle between the resilient and ambitious “Italian Stallion” and the Russian death-punching Commie (I can say that now because it was the 80s then) Ivan Drago. It’s a hell of a boxing match and one of the few where there’s a chance that one of the fighters may not actually make it out alive.

5 Neo vs. Agent Smith in 'The Matrix'
This is one of the most iconic scenes in the Matrix series. In it, Neo is able to show for the first time that you don’t always have to run from what you fear. It’s fast-paced, heavy-hitting action at its best and easily beats the final fight between Neo and Agent Smith in The Matrix Revolutions.

4 Beatrix Kiddo vs. Vernita Green in 'Kill Bill'
Outside of a female maximum security prison, this is the best girl on girl violence you’re ever going to see, period. This is a ripper of a scuffle between our protagonist and the first assassin on her kill list. The fact that it takes place in a suburban living room, using household weapons and awesome ninjatics (ninja acrobatics) and occurs right at the beginning of the movie makes it a unique scene, while the clever choreography and great dialogue make it worth watching multiple times.

3 Alistair Little vs. Joe Griffin in 'Five Minutes of Heaven'
This is an engrossing drama with a very deliberate way of building up the character’s motivations and the suspense before unleashing a very brutal, tense and surprising fight scene that brings Alistair’s regret and Joe’s anger to closure. But I won’t tell you what brought the two to fisticuffs, that’s between you and Netflix.

2 Ripley vs. The Queen in 'Aliens'
“Get away from her, you bitch!” will forever be ingrained in the minds of victims of sci-fi fans.
This is a thrilling scene for a lot of reasons, such as Sigourney Weaver’s excellent acting and the brilliantly designed queen alien (who stood 14 feet tall and was filmed with no post production effects). The stellar music is a clear stand out, though, arranged by composer James Horner who was put under an enormous amount of pressure and tight deadlines for the entire film’s score. The music for that scene was basically written overnight and Horner ended up taking home an Oscar for Best Original Score.

1 Everyone vs. the T800 in 'Terminator 1, 2 & 3'
If you like Terminator on Terminator action, then you’ve come to the right Internet list! There is no other tour de force quite like Arnold’s T800 vs. everyone else. In the first film, he fights an entire police station full of cops, a savvy guerilla-fighting warrior from the future and destiny-bound Sarah Connor. In Terminator 2 he takes on the T1000 whose iron-bound will, cunning morph ability and liquid alloy build-up make him nearly indestructible. In Terminator 3 the T800 takes on the sexy and dangerous TX whose hybrid endoskeleton, liquid exterior and built-in weaponry make her the most dangerous foe of all. Spectacular robotic violence ensues.
