Man shoots self at party, friends mourn by going to movies

I admit that I’m often not the best friend, but I think that responding to a friend shooting himself at a party with going to the movies is probably not the strongest idea.

Denton Police are investigating a bizarre shooting.

According to authorities, all of the witnesses left the scene after a man shot himself in the head and said they headed to the movies.

Police are not releasing the name of the 28-year-old man who shot himself. He is at Baylor Hospital in intensive care.

The shooting happened Saturday night.

Denton police say there was a small party at a home. One of the residents pretended to shoot himself in the head with a revolver, which was not loaded. Police say the man then loaded the gun and shot himself in the temple.

Four of the witnesses immediately left the party.

The sound from the gunshot woke a roommate, who was asleep in the back of the house. That roommate called 911.

“They claim to have gone to a movie theater to calm down,” said Denton Police Officer Ryan Grelle. “That’s the part we’re concerned about. Why didn’t you stick around for us to talk to you?”

It may seem somewhat insensitive of the friends to leave after their friend shot himself, at best. At worst, they probably shot him. But what the police didn’t think about is that they may just have been playing the ol’ drinking game “Shoot Yourself or Go to the Movies”. It’s not their fault that they excelled at the game or, more likely, invented it just to get their friend to shoot himself. We should salute these heroes for being simply the best at what they do.

Also it’s entirely possible that this was the worst party ever. The only way it could have been worse is it one friend put a chunk of the guy’s brain on his head and said, “Hey look at me, I’m Mike!” then danced around the room with the brain dangling like a Daniel Crockett hat. With his genitals tucked away between his legs. Yeah, there we go.
