Study: Romantic comedies ruin people’s perceptions of real relationships

Who hasn’t seen a romantic comedy, wiped away the tears and yelled at the screen, “THIS ISN’T HOW IT WORKS, KATHERINE HEIGL!” Oh, just me. Well, anyway, a new study out of Australia shows that people feel that romantic comedies have warped their perceptions on a real relationship.

'Pensive thinking is no replacement for love,' they both thought ironically.

The study shows that almost half of the 1000 people polled believe that the inevitable “happy ending” of a romantic comedy has ruined their view of an ideal relationship.

Additionally, 25 percent of those polled said they they were expected to know what their partner was thinking while 20 percent said that romantic comedies have convinced their partner to expect gifts and flowers “just because.”

The survey was released by Warner Home Video to promote the DVD release of the film “Valentine’s Day,” which makes sense, because you want people to know in advance that the movie will ruin the lives of everyone who comes across it. It’s like “The Ring,” only with a swampy child corpse replaced by an equally bloated and unf-ckable Queen Latifah. At least you know the girl from “The Ring” won’t stop in the middle to make herself a Dagwood sandwich.
