Target

Because Hunger Games fans are dumb enough to buy anything. CinemaBlend has a pretty distressing story about some Hunger Games tie-in merchandise. According to them, big box retailer Target is planning on rolling out a bunch of swag along with the DVD and Blu-Ray release of the first movie. Some of it seems sort of reasonable, like the replica of Katniss’s leather hunting jacket for $349, but the cherry on top of the sundae is the replica of the Mockingjay pin that Katniss’s sister gives her for good luck. If you want one of these babies, get ready to shell out $999.

You read that right: nearly a thousand dollars, before tax, to show how much you love your favorite movie. Who has that kind of money anymore that shops at Target? Even if you try to be fancy and pronounce it “tar-jay,” that’s still a big-ticket item. For a retailer that prides itself on bringing affordable design to the masses, this seems like a rare misstep. But what do I know? Maybe Americans are looking for something totally idiotic to throw money away on, and maybe this is it.

What do you think? Is there any movie-related thing you’d drop a grand on? A replica of Thor’s hammer that really shot electricity? A tube of the black goo from Prometheus? Lindsay Lohan (as a person)? Let me know in the comments.

What'd you think of this?
