People out there have been breathlessly Googling for information on the new iteration of Captain America hitting theatres on July 22, 2011. In this edition of “The Countdown”, we break down everything there is to know about the new movie starring Chris Evans along with all the pictures and video you could hope for.

What’s the back story with this edition of Captain America?

The movie’s basic premise doesn’t veer that much from the comic books. Prior to a military experiment, Captain America is known as Steve Rogers, a waifish young man deemed unfit to serve in the military. However, thanks to the experiment called “Project: Rebirth” that infuses Rogers with a super soldier serum, Rogers becomes a genetic specimen who would come to be known as “Captain America”, the best soldier the army has ever seen.

Show me some images of this “Captain America”, boy.

No need to be demeaning, question asker. Here’s the official movie poster:

What “Captain America” trailers have been released so far?

This first teaser trailer aired during the “Super Bowl”:

And then this official trailer was released in the middle of March:

Who’s the MVP of that first official trailer?

That would absolutely be Iron Man’s dad, Howard Stark, who responds to Chris Evans emerging from the Magic Super Soldier machine with this delightfully homoerotic expression to Steve Rogers’ new ripped physique:

Who will our beloved Captain America be defending our fair nation from in the film?

Former “Matrix” baddie and “Lord of the Rings” nerd (as well as “V” in “V for Vendetta”) Hugo Weaving will be playing the part of Johann Schmidt, aka Red Skull, in the film. He has a plan for world domination and, spoiler alert, has a red skull. Here’s the lone image of that so far, seen in the official trailer above:

What’s the plot of this so called “moving picture”?

Not a whole lot has been released yet but the film is expected to be primarily an origin story revolving around Evans’ Steve Rogers character growing into the position of importance that is being the super soldier known as Captain America. Weaving’s Red Skull also has plans for world domination that involve procuring a magical object known as the “Tesseract” (also known in comics as the “Cosmic Cube”).

We’d imagine there’ll be some effort to stop him on Captain America’s part as two hours of Chris Evans masturbating in front of a mirror looking at his new physique while Red Skull takes over the planet might be a bit too niche for mainstream audiences.

What supporting players are in the film?

“Gossip Girl” vet and star of the short-lived but overhyped NBC drama “Kings” Sebastian Stan plays Captain America’s sidekick Bucky Barnes. Tommy Lee Jones plays the part of stereotypical “gruff, skeptical [military] officer” Colonel Chester Phillips. Hayley Atwell plays Evans’ love interest/bad ass female soldier Peggy Carter in the film. When her casting was announced, due to Atwell’s relative unknown status, this ridiculously hot photo became her claim to fame because, well, boobs:

Are there any “Avengers” tie-ins in the film?

As with most of the Marvel releases, there will be easter eggs sprinkled throughout hinting to Captain America’s future ties to The Avengers and their highly anticipated 2012 film. Tie-ins already confirmed in the film include the presence of Howard Stark, Tony “Iron Man” Stark’s father, and a cameo by Samuel L. Jackson as S.H.I.E.L.D. operative Nick Fury.

Is there going to be a video game released where I can pretend to be “Captain America” without embarrassing myself and my family by being an adult man playing with action figures?

The loosely connected video game “Captain America: Super Soldier” is hitting consoles and PC at some undetermined point this summer. In the game, you take on HYDRA and other nebulous Nazis as the Cap’n. More details on the game are available at its microsite.

Have there been any reviews of “Captain America” leaked?

Nothing that we can find as of yet. Do you know of anything? Leave it in the comments and we’ll update this post.

Okay, so when does this bad boy come out?

“Captain America: The First Avenger” hits theatres nationwide on July 22, 2011.

What'd you think of this?
