Woody Allen’s new movie has some bonkers casting
If you’re Woody Allen, you can cast Andrew Dice Clay in 2012 and it’s cool. I wouldn’t normally write about Woody Allen movies on this site because, even though he casts hot chicks in his movies they’re also usually totally uninteresting to me. But when I read this bit on AICN about some names he’s cast for his upcoming untitled project, I had to share.
First off: Andrew Dice Clay. The foul-mouthed comedian hasn’t been trusted to anchor a movie since The Adventures of Ford Fairlane, and we all remember how that one did. Clay’s career has been struggling for the last, what, two decades, so this is a weird move on Allen’s part. His persona is also a little earthier than Allen’s typical protagonists.
Second: Louis C.K. Another comedian who tends to work blue, C.K. is a doughy redhead divorced dad who has mined his personal life to hilarious effect on his FX sitcom Louie. He’s one of the funniest guys on TV today, but it’s his personal voice that makes him so. How will he work as a mouthpiece for Woody Allen dialogue?
The rest of the cast isn’t quite as weird – Alec Baldwin, Max Casella and Peter Sarsgaard are the biggest names – and the female leads are Cate Blanchett and Sally Hawkins. The movie will be the first one Allen films in the United States since 2004′s Melinda And Melinda.
