You ready for three hours of ‘Avengers?’

Walt Disney Studios/Marvel
Can there ever be too much of a good thing? The Avengers is the third highest-grossing movie of all time, so you’d better bet that Disney wants to squeeze as much cheddar out of the franchise as possible. Superhero Authority is reporting that Joss Whedon’s three-hour director’s cut of the film, which was originally expected to make its way to Blu-Ray later in the year, might actually be given an outing on the big screen first.
This is a pretty savvy move on Disney’s part – Avengers is the only summer movie to really perform above expectations this year, and with reports of people seeing the film multiple times, it’s quite feasible that thirty-five minutes of extra footage could certainly get them into the theater for one more go.
Of course, this is only a rumor so far, but with a disappointing movie season that’s not looking too great for the next few months, theater owners are probably looking to get every little bit of paper that they can. Would you see Avengers again for a half-hour of extra footage? What if it’s all just the guys eating shawarma?
