VIDEO: Mixing indie pop with a gangsta rap video backdrop is confusing, interesting
You know that indie pop genre where female singers are set to banjos and everyone sounds vaguely like Feist? Now, mix that with traditional gangsta rap music video scenery and you get this song from Rachel Goodrich called “Light Bulb”. The video is sort of NSFW, mostly for the traditional gangsta rap staple of big asses bouncing. But it’s worth the watch.
For this video, Goodrich won a contest held by Sweat Records. It also is supposed to be about broader cultural issues but, whatever. Can’t we just appreciate how silly it is to have a whimsical white girl song with kazoos juxtaposed with big bouncing black asses and various showings of thug life without making it all preachy? STOP TRYING TO MAKE ME THINK.
