The only thing you need to see about Jersey Shore is in this post
I’m absolutely in love with MTV’s new show Jersey Shore. In spite of having Italian ancestry, I see nothing wrong with showing the world a group of people that legitimately exist in the Northeast. But if you’re not sold on the utter trash genius that the show is (any time a show has a character who nicknamed himself “The Situation,” there’s brilliance afoot), this short .gif will definitely get you on board.

The girl in the .gif is a cast member of the show nicknamed “Snooki” while the guy is just some random dude. But the fact that this is being shown on a reality TV show means a big step forward in society. Not in the quality of television mind you; this is pretty much the lowest that TV can go (though I admire the underlying self-awareness some of the mooks on the show have). But this is a real step forward for women. Snooki isn’t exactly empowering, saying that her dream would be to “hook up with a hot, juiced up Guido guy and live in Jersey forever,” but her getting punched in the face is the equivalent of that Rosie the Riveter ad. It says, “Hey, society. Women can get punched in the face by a man and, in certain cases, it will be hilarious.” If that’s not gender equality, I don’t know what is.
