Abercrombie & Fitch’s padded bras for eight-year-old girls anger many
You know what’s a common problem? The lift and separation of eight-year-old girls’ bosoms. At least, that’s what you might be led to believe by Abercrombie & Fitch’s new “Ashley” Push-Up Triangle, a bust-enhancing bathing suit for girls ages eight to 14.
The bikini top/bra appears on the Abercrombie Kids Web site and serves to boost a girl’s bustline through the magic of padding and lifting.
The outrage is coming from many of the usual places you’d expect. Fox News spoke to Los Angeles psychologist Nancy Irwin, who believes the top could pave the way to whorishness, said:
“Wearing a padded bra at that age when unnecessary is encouraging sexual precociousness, a dangerous muscle to flex for the girl as well as for peers and predators.”
As of the time of publishing this article, the bikini top is still available on the Abercrombie Kids’ Web site at a sale price of $18.38 (plus shipping, handling, and pole dance lessons).
Abercrombie & Fitch is known for many of its racy ads that teeter on the verge of child pornography, so it’s not like this could be such a surprise. But the outrage here just seems silly, especially when parents could just go, “Hey, sweetie, how about we not get the bikini top that makes you look like Christi Canyon since you still watch Dora the Explorer? Thanks.”
But really, the psychologist and her ilk are being a little overdramatic. You’re telling me that a prepubsecent girl wearing a bikini top like this is just the first step in a slippery path that ends with the Jennifer Connelly “ass to ass” scene in “Requiem for a Dream”? That seems like a little bit of a stretch…no pun intended.
