Ball State divided over rogue bicycling ass-slapper
Chris Spags A bicyclist in the area of Indiana college Ball State University has been accused of riding around and slapping the asses of three women near the campus. A Facebook fan page was put up in his honor, but the school paper is issuing editorials urging people to take the matter seriously. What to make of the man affectionately being called The Ball State Ass Slapper?
Ball State University officials issued a safety warning after receiving reports of several incidents involving the bike-by gropings, urging students to be cautious and not travel alone.
Ball State students responded by not taking the reports too seriously, with students creating a Facebook page for The Ball State Ass Slapper and joining it in large numbers (almost 8,000 fans as of Friday morning). According to WBBM-AM in Chicago, students on the page are making jokes, speculating it might be Tiger Woods.
Of course, many in the school aren’t happy about the lighthearted response. An editorial in the school’s newspaper claims that “campus battery is nothing to laugh about.”
Some commenters on our Web site said things like this are a part of college, that maybe the women were dressed provocatively and that men are persecuted enough.
None of those reasons, nor any reason, gives someone the right to touch another person inappropriately or without permission.
In today’s society, women still have to be concerned for their safety. Who can say that this man on the bicycle won’t escalate from this incident?
Well, I don’t know that there’s anyone who thinks that a guy biking by and molesting women is a good thing. But at the same time, it seems like a bit of a stretch that you go from speedy ass slapping to full-on sexual assault. Plus he’d have to get off his bike to do that, thus totally negating the “charm” of his crimes. Let’s just hope he never finds out about a little something called a donkey slap.
