CAPTION THIS! Ralph Lauren flaked so now win a $50 Amazon gift card from us

The fine folks at Ralph Lauren’s PR firm were kind enough to ask us to pull the caption contest after we published it and dozens of you came out to comment (after they had previously approved the idea). So allow me to get on our soapbox for a minute while also giving you another “Caption This!” to play.

We do not work for PR agencies. We do not work for brands. We work for you, the Guyism reader. And I know that’s a cliché thing to say, but I genuinely mean it. When we built this site, we did it because we felt the men’s interest vertical lacked a site that spoke directly to readers rather than above them. And our obligation is to inform and entertain you as well as give cool stuff to you whenever we can.

So when our talented and passionate style editor Gabe receives an email asking us to “PLEASE REMOVE!” after posting a lighthearted caption contest designed to get a prize for you guys (that also did a good job promoting a Ralph Lauren product for free AND plugged their social media accounts), we do not take too kindly to that.

Now, you might be wondering why Polo’s PR team demanded we take the post down. Apparently, they don’t like it when you are, and I quote, “making fun of anyone/anything, especially fashion related folks.” And a silly caption contest of someone dressed like an asshole apparently falls under that umbrella.

We cover style seriously. We cover news, sports, technology, and gaming seriously as well. And we’ll continue to cover Ralph Lauren honestly and with only the best interests of you, the Guyism reader, in mind. But any company that’s going to pull a prize from you guys after we go through the effort of doing something interesting for their brand and our audience (not to mention you guys putting in effort to make a funny comment) can, frankly, go fuck themselves.
