Elderly man beats off armed burglar with a Swiffer
Chris Spags I haven’t found the Swiffer to be a hugely impactful cleaning device (any time static cling is your defense against dirt, it may be time to go back to the drawing board), but maybe I haven’t been using it right. One 71-year-old man in South Carolina is definitely using the Swiffer correctly though as he somehow fought off an intruder with it.

The man appeared to have a pistol in his hand and while that may be enough to frighten most people, Graham stood up to the would-be robber.
Graham told WYFF in South Carolina:
“He told me to get down and I grabbed the Swiffer, started jabbing him with it and it broke off, so I still kept on jabbing,” Graham said. “I told him, ‘You get out of my house, you sorry son of a bitch, I’ll kill you.’ I kept jabbing him and he ran to the back of the house and then across behind the house.”
The intruder ran out the back door and got away from what would certainly have been a vicious plastic cleaning device beatdown.
I’m obviously happy that the old man was able to beat off the robber (this story would be a lot less fun if it were “Armed Robber Guns Down Old Man after Being Repeatedly Poked with Plastic Cleaning Device”). But I have to wonder what kind of robber storms into a house with a gun fully intending to steal things and instead leaves with a couple of Swiffer-induced black and blues and a low sense of self-esteem. Maybe he had a crisis of conscience, but he could have at least pistol whipped the old guy. These black outfits and ski masks aren’t going to pay for themselves, you know.
