FAQ: Rebecca Black and the “Friday” song and music video

So when I did our Rebecca Black breakdown last night, I figured that’d cover the Rebecca Black “Friday” song
and music video adequately. Little did I know that it’s now Monday (the day after Sunday and four days before Friday, FYI) and there’d be more Rebecca Black goodness than I could possibly imagine. So here’s an FAQ/round-up.
How did the Rebecca Black video come about?
According to celebrity gossip community Oh No They Didn’t, Black’s video comes through Ark Music Factory, which is a company run out of Southern California by Clarence Jey and Patrice Wilson. The duo’s business model involves producing songs for wealthy Southern California parents who think their child can be the next great pop star. One of the two (most likely Patrice Wilson) is believed to be the black dude rapping in the video.
How old is Rebecca Black?
According to a tweet on Monday morning, Black is 13 years old (almost 14)
Let’s skip ahead for a second…who’s getting the most viral heat from the song?
The girl dancing awkwardly in the pink shirt during the “riding in the back of the car and singing” part of the song is crushing it on Facebook right now, picking up over 10,000 likes in three days. Here’s a gif of her star turn for the uninformed.

Blue tee guy in the back of the car when Rebecca is waiting at the bus stop is also picking up momentum. His fan page currently has 800 fans.
What’s the craziest rumor out there about Rebecca Black?
A commenter dropped this one on our initial Rebecca Black post:
[I heard] she has a brain condition that erases her memory every hour or so, and she made the song up to remind her of where to sit in the car, what saturday and sunday are, and who her friends were. idk, heard it from somewhere. probably just somebody trying to make her feel better about this song fail.
What’s been the best reaction so far to the video?
That honor would go to 20-year-old Kingsley of YouTube channel “It’s Kingsley Bitch”. In his bitchy takedown of the video, Kingsley says Black is “so fucking full of herself and the fact that it’s Friday” and hopes “her car falls in front of a fucking body of water.”
What about Rebecca herself? What’s her deal?
As mentioned above, she’s 13 years old. She’s an eighth grader in Southern California. According to her bio, she’s sang the National Anthem at over 50 locations, including before an Angels baseball game. She was previously signed to a modeling contract at age 11 and has been taking vocal lessons since age 10. Due to the involvement of Ark Music Factory and the production values of the video, most assume she’s also of a reasonably wealthy background. She enjoys cereal.
Here’s a snapshot of a Wikipedia page which has since been taken down:

She can also be found on Twitter here with the username @MsRebeccaBlack.
Who’s got this?
I got this, you’ve got this, we got this. Now you know it.
Who are the unsung heroes of the “Friday” music video?
The girl dancing alongside Rebecca Black during the backseat of the car singing portion of the video on Black’s left is woefully neglected. In fact, Black herself says in the song “my friend is by my right”, completely ignoring that she also has a friend on her left. Here is a .gif of her dancing.

There’s also a brewing movement for blue shirt bus stop kid, as mentioned above. But personally, as I previously mentioned, my MVP of the video is the kid in the green shirt.

What’s the deal with Friday?
It precedes Saturday. Then comes Sunday. Everybody’s looking forward to the weekend. We don’t speak of Thursday.
What’s the best cover version of the Rebecca Black song?
If I had to present that honor to anyone, it’d probably go to Alex Carpenter. His cover of “Friday” is embedded below.
Buzzfeed also rounded up several of the best covers, which can be seen here.

When I’m at the bus stop and my friends pull up, where should I sit so as to avoid a social faux pas?
Always the back seat. NEVER THE FRONT. You hear me? NEVER THE FRONT.
Could you embed the video for me again? I can’t find it online.
Fine. Lazy.
