Judge lets off drunk driver, gets hit by him 11 years later

Judges tend not to be thought of as cool. There’s a good reason for that. Because when they are “cool,” like one judge in Maryland who released a drunk driver without jail time, they end up getting hit by the same drunk driver 11 years later. That’ll learn ya.

drunkdriving 309x206 Judge lets off drunk driver, gets hit by him 11 years later According to a report in the Washington Post, 45-year-old Rene Fernandez was sentenced to 18 months in jail for a crash that injured former judge Edwin Collier and his wife.

Fernandez tested as having a blood-alcohol level more than twice the legal limit and, to top it all off, this was at 3 in the afternoon. If only his commitment to safe driving were as strong as his dedication to efficient drinking.

During Fernandez’s previous offense with Collier, the judge sentenced him to 60 days in jail but suspended the term.

I think this is an important lesson to learn. It’s a lot like that phrase “No good deed goes unpunished.” But that phrase is really outdated. So it’s more like, “If you do something good, odds are, you’re going to get seriously injured by a drunk driver.” That’s a lesson I’m going to really hammer home to my kids. I may even put it onto a recording and put it over my future baby mama’s stomach just to really make sure they get it at a young age. Their first words will be, “Thanks for showing me the path to enlightenment, Judge Collier.” My fictional kids are really well-spoken like that.
