Man eats winning lottery ticket after learning he won during flight

A man was flying with Ryanair when he discovered he won €10,000 as part of one of the company’s promotions. After learning that he couldn’t get the money at that moment, he became frustrated and reacted logically, leading him to eat his winning ticket rendering the ticket ineligible and, presumably, stinky.

The unnamed man was flying with Ryanair from Krakow, in Poland, to East Midlands Airport when he won €10,000 with the scratch card.

Cabin crew on the flight confirmed he had a winning card, but told the passenger he would have to collect the jackpot directly from the company that runs the competition as they did not have enough cash on board the plane.

Ryanair said the man then became frustrated and started to eat his winning ticket while on the flight on Thursday.

Stephen McNamara, a spokesman for Ryanair, said the cabin crew and some passengers had attempted to persaude the man not to eat the ticket, but he stood up and ate it anyway.

I don’t know how you can defend the guy for his shortsightedness other than pointing out that he was flying from Poland. I’m glad to see old stereotypical Polish jokes are now becoming news items. I’m really looking forward to reading in future news stories about the invention of the first submarine with a screen door and the tale of the friendly one-armed man sitting in a tree.

Anyway Ryanair, ever the opportunist, is running a poll through the end of the week to determine where the man’s €10,000 should go, with choices such as:

1. An Anger Management Charity
2. An Eating Disorder Charity
3. A Gamblers Charity
4. A Disruptive Children’s Charity
5. A Mental Health Charity

Noticeable absent from the selections: A charity for irrational and incontinent lottery winners.
