Man pulls hostage prank with granddaughter

One of the most important relationships you can have in your life is the one with your grandparents. They can teach you all sorts of important things, like how to be an upstanding person and how to raise a family. Or, if they’re like this Miami family, they can teach a grandchild how to pretend she’s holding someone hostage as a joke and end up getting her grandfather arrested.

Miami Township police said they are not laughing at what a man and his granddaughter thought would be a simple prank.

Officers said they received a report that a man driving a green minivan near the Dayton Mall around 1:20 Sunday afternoon was being held hostage. A short time later, they spotted the vehicle on State Route 725 and learned that the driver was not being held as a hostage.

“The grandfather essentially told the granddaughter it would be funny if she held a bb gun to his head as he drove down the road,” Sgt. William Kelly of the Miami Township Police Department said.

The grandfather ended up getting charged with “inducing a panic,” which seems kind of unfair. I don’t care whose idea it was; the granddaughter was holding the gun so she has to be the one to pay the price. We need to start teaching these kids important life lessons at a young age so they can avoid the douchebaggery that their parents regularly take part in. Send this little girl to a federal prison. There’s no greater lesson you can learn in elementary school that you can’t learn in jail. What 5th grade class teaches you how to make wine in a radiator or how to make a shiv out of your own feces? Maybe ones in Alabama, but very rarely elsewhere.
