Study: Chubby guys as attractive as fit ones
Good news, chunkers! A new study by the University of Queensland (Australia) showed that women surveyed found men either chubby or slender as a guy with a rippling six pack. Time to stop the crunches and commence the hoagies. Or bulimia. Or both!
Researcher Phillippa Diedrichs showed media with traditionally sexy male presences — cologne, fashion, etc advertisements — to over 600 students in their late teens but showed both chubby, skinny, and ripped men in the situations.
“Some participants’ may have attributed the models’ muscularity to vanity or homosexuality, characteristics which they may have found unpleasant or discomforting,” Diedrichs told a New Zealand outlet.
Neither men nor women polled responded more favorably to the guys with the handsome stomachs and muscles. The study is one of the first of its kind to take a look at the traditionally female-focused issues of body image and the “ideal” figure.
I guess this is good news? Not that I go around rating men for their sex appeal (usually), but is it really so unreasonable for both men or women to want to see a man in decent shape wearing underwear on the cover of a package? It strikes me as hard to tell if underwear might be a good fit for me if there’s a bulbous stomach hanging over. What I’m saying is I like to see my men in underwear in at least serviceable shape. And if that’s so wrong, I don’t want to be straight. I mean…right. I don’t want to be right. Yes. Right. *runs out of room crying, tenderly caressing box of Tommy Hilfiger underwear where the guy has a little bit of hair on his stomach but not too much because he takes care of himself, but he’s still a man, you know?*
