Not sure how familiar our readership is with female biology, but basically, women typically only have one uterus. But very rarely, women have two separate developed fetuses. One Utah woman found out about her double-stuffed uteruses when her doctor told her that she was having two babies, but not twins. Weird!
Angie Cromar went in to her OB/GYN to get her first ultrasound when her doctor saw two babies. Not so weird. What was weird…they were both in different stages of development.
“[He said] I’m five weeks and four days in one, and six weeks and one day in the other,” Cromar told KSL in Utah.
The condition is “uterus didelphys,” which basically means she has two uteruses capable of holding a baby. She reason for the two fetuses in the separate uteruses comes from the fact that she basically got knocked up twice, about a week apart, something which hadn’t happened in Cromar’s other pregnancies.
There are potentially complications for the one out of 5 million condition, like low birth weight or pre-term labor, but the family is optimistic for the babies, now 20 weeks along in the pregnancy.
Here’s hoping the best for Cromar and her family. I also hope the kids speed out of her cooch like a parent taking a small child down a waterslide. So, two things to root for.
