VIDEO: Rebecca Black behind the scenes video is blissfully lacking in self-awareness
In my eyes, one of the major problems with making fun of people for a living and, specifically, pseudocelebrity is how entirely too self-aware everyone is. It kind of takes the joy out of it. Fortunately, young Rebecca Black of “Friday” fame is not so tuned in, making for this FANTASTIC behind the scenes video.
Timeline breakdown:
0:24 – The hard part for Rebecca was the choreography. Probably because she dances about as well as Michael Jackson doing the “Thriller” dance. Now. With none of the irony that’d come with that.
1:10 – “I’m a 13 year old from Orange County [doing this]. It’s so weeeeird!” Note the use of “weird” which is an elegant way of Humblebragging. The problem is that I would SPECIFICALLY expect a teenage kid from Orange County with an interest in music and parents plunking craploads of money into deluding their child they’re talented to be the type who’d have this kind of success. The white and wealthy getting more advantages in life? No way! How weeeeeeird!
1:30 – Don’t worry kids, Rebecca Black has been bullied too. But she made it through. Now she’s a well-known and widely disliked teenager with a popular YouTube channel who talks like a guy who slept with one girl then is providing sex tips to everyone else. Dreams can come true, you see.
1:38 – Also, for the record, most kids getting bullied tend not to be able to turn it into a lucrative career. Last I checked, there aren’t a lot of spinoff career opportunities for some kid getting wedgies and being called gay every day.
1:45 – “You can’t let people stop you from doing what you want to do,” no matter how much of a crime you’re committing against humanity. File that one under, “Life Lessons You Can Extract from Rebecca Black and/or Hitler”.
