VIDEO: That #OccupyWallStreet protest went off better than expected

When I read about the lead-up to the protests occurring in New York City’s Financial District, I was dubious about how things would turn out since the reasons for it seemed a bit specious at best. But this video of the protest from 55 Wall Street seems like it turned out okay. And included a, and I quote, “faceoff with the rich” at the end.

Okay, I’m with you there. But then they did it on a Saturday, when no businesses are open, the stock market is closed, and the only people in the area are people who live there because the region is one of the only moderately affordable ones by NYC standards in the entire city. The logic there is strong.

It’s also hilarious how angry they get at the people looking at them from the balcony. What legitimately powerful rich person is leisurely hanging out on a balcony with a glass of champagne on a Saturday afternoon in a dead part of town? It just seems so illogical yet contrived, either as a reverse troll or by the event organizers to make a “moment.” I’m surprised the people on the balcony weren’t wearing monocles and top hats while saying things like, “BUY, SELL, BEARS” and lighting cigars with $100 bills.

Either way, protests are always extremely effective so don’t be shocked when you wake up today and the world you knew no longer exists. “What, all the companies on the NYSE shut down forever today because 2,000 college liberals held up signs that didn’t really make sense over the weekend? Makes sense.”
