Woman arrested for taking 506 pounds of pot onto a plane
The TSA really cracked down on liquids, leaving us all fending to shove everything into two ounce bottles. But apparently weed didn’t fall under that umbrella, or Lisette Lee didn’t get the memo, as she brought a quarter-ton of pot into Ohio on a private plane.
According to the Associated Press:
Lisette Lee, the bodyguard and two personal assistants were arrested Monday night after the Drug Enforcement Administration got a tip that the 28-year-old woman was traveling with a suspicious amount of luggage.
After the chartered plane landed in Columbus, one of Lee’s assistants and her bodyguard helped baggage workers unload some of the luggage, authorities said. It took two men to carry some of the large suitcases, which were packed with bricks of pot, and three vehicles to carry all the luggage, authorities said.
Authorities also confiscated from Lee’s bag three cell phones, cocaine, marijuana, drug paraphernalia and suspected drug ledgers that showed some $300,000 in transactions.
Lee initially claimed that she chartered the plane to visit her boyfriend and transfer equipment to a “horse farm” (horses love drugs, apparently). She then claimed a friend paid her $60,000 to bring all the suitcases with her, then leave a few of them there.
I don’t know a whole lot about drug dealing other than my brief time at the top of a drug cartel on Drug Wars on my old TI-86 calculator. But I do know that any time you’re transporting 506 pounds worth of anything, you’re in for trouble. You could be transferring 506 pounds of babies, chocolate, and sunshine and I’d think you were somehow using that to make the most potent crystal meth around. And I definitely want in that baby/chocolate/sunshine meth business, so it looks like we have some secrets yet to unfurl.
