Typically when you hear stories about the gastropods occupying the throne as World’s Fattest Man or Woman, it’s about how their lives spiraled out of control but they desperately want to get back to normal (see World’s Fattest Man Manuel Uribe for more). But one New Jersey woman is intentionally trying to seize the crown. Prepare to be horrified.
Donna Simpson, from New Jersey, weighs 273kg but told the Daily Mail newspaper she had her heart set on reaching her goal weight of 1000lb (450kg) in two years.
The 42-year-old already holds the title of the world’s fattest mother after giving birth to her daughter in 2007 when she weighed 241kg.
“I’d love to be 1000lb … it might be hard though, running after my daughter keeps my weight down,” Ms Simpson told the Daily Mail.
Her 49-year-old partner Philippe — who she met on a dating site for plus-size people — was encouraging her to reach her goal, she said.
“I think he’d like it if I was bigger … he’s a real belly man and completely supports me,” she said.
To put on enough weight, Ms Simpson will need to eat 12,000 calories a day, which is six times the recommended daily intake for women.
Philippe isn’t the only fat fetishist in her life. To generate money and pay for her weekly food bills, Simpson runs a Web site (if anyone knows the URL, feel free to drop it in the comments) in which she eats food on camera to a bevy of men paying to watch. Yeah.
So let’s say that it’s great this woman has a goal and is doing her best to realize it. And let’s say that it’s not going to completely ruin her daughter’s life that her mom is doing this to herself every day, deliberately hobbling herself with fat all for the accolades and monster sh-ts that come with being the World’s Fattest Woman. One question comes to mind: Why? The only reason the world’s fattest people get attention is so that society can gawk at them and go, “How horrible! I’m glad I only ate two cheeseburgers today!” and perhaps occasionally get inspired by them if they try to lose the weight. But doing it deliberately just makes it really sad and another reflection upon the ridiculous lengths people will go to for a glimpse of fame.
Fight on, you human Hindenburg. It’s ironic that a woman with the weight and physical composition of a fuel-efficient Japanese car has to go to such lengths just to get noticed.
