Woman runs down cousin with car over Facebook friend request snub
Facebook: Serious business. In another of those senseless crimes committed in response to things happening on Facebook, a Long Island woman allegedly ran down her cousin, leaving her motionless in the street, after she found out that a man whom she was interested in had accepted her cousin’s Facebook friend request — but not hers.
Melanie Spanopoulos is accused of running down her cousin with her minivan [ED. NOTE: The deadliest of all vans] on Monday.
The altercation allegedly began after Spanopoulos and her cousin, Giselle Panagos, left a local bar after Sunday’s Jets game. Somehow it came out that Panagos had been in touch on Facebook with a man whom Spanapoulos was interested in.
Spanapoulos then allegedly pulled over her car and told Panagos to leave. Spanapoulos then got into a shoving match with her cousin when she refused to get back into the car.
The situation escalated when Spanapoulos responded by getting back into the driver’s seat of the minivan and running her cousin down.
According to the NY Post, Spanapoulos told Panagos to get into the car afterwards, but drove away when Panagos replied, “I can’t get in the car, I can’t feel my legs.”
A nearby good Samaritan saved Panagos, who was left in the street — in the vicinity of oncoming traffic — by her Spanapoulos.
Spanapoulos is being held on $10,000 bail.
Ironically, there is also a page supporting Spanapoulos’s innocence online right now. It has one fan.
