2011 Guyism Holiday Gift Guide – 15 picks under $50
Four days out from Christmas and two days into Chanukah — let me guess, you still have shopping to do right? Don’t worry, the Style team here at Guyism has put together our favorite 15 products under $50 so you can get in that holiday order or run to the store and grab it. Worse comes to worse, keep this in mind when you’re returning everything your girlfriend bought you that you told her you liked, but in reality its hideous. Enjoy!
1. Chester Mox Slim Dark Brown Vertical Dogleg Wallet – $39
Regular old wallets are overrated. Try something a little different with this number from Chester Mox.
2. Polo Ralph Lauren Merino Wool Watch Cap – $29.99
Winter is finally here and we’re all going to need something to keep our ears warm. This merino wool watch cap is a great solution to those cold morning commutes.
3. L.L. Bean Handsewn Slippers, Flannel-lined – $39.95
Stop wearing the flip flops you wear on the beach or to the pool around the house. Instead, try these handsewn jawns from L.L. Bean. They’re flannel-lined, so rest assured they’ll keep your feet warmer than your thongs.
4. J. Crew Marled fleece sweatshirt – $49.50
Believe it or not, if worn correctly a nice sweatshirt that looks like it came out of your college closet can look pretty good. Pair it with a nice button-down and jeans and you’ve got a great casual get-up.
5. Timex Easy Reader – $40
There’s no reason this stylish watch should also be so inexpensive, but hey, let’s not question it.
6. Richer Poorer Socks – $12
I can’t overstate how much I enjoy giving (and receiving!) socks as gifts. Even more enjoyable? Luxe fabrics in bright colors and patterns. (Editor’s Note: These socks are the shiz. I own more than a few pairs and so far they hold up great.)
7. Under Armour Hundo 1.0 1/4 Zip Fleece Jacket – $50
While there’s about a 50/50 chance a girl will open a gift of exercise clothes and ask, “Are you trying to tell me I’m fat?,” guys do not look for subliminal messaging in presents. That’s why giving new workout gear to a guy is always a safe bet. It’s something guys always need, but don’t always think to buy themselves.
8. GoldenEye: 007 Reloaded – $39.99
If your brother/boyfriend/husband/mailman was anything like Every Guy I Know Ever, he was obsessed with the original “GoldenEye” video game. This reboot, on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, will reacquaint him with his gamer glory days.
9. iTap Touchscreen gloves – $20
There’s plenty of touchscreen gloves on the market today, and most of them look like a leftover Tron-themed Halloween costume. This pair from iTap prides itself on being both functional and fashionable, with the thumb, index and middle fingers operating a touchscreen with no problem.
10. Lands End Canvas Tartan Poplin Shirts – sale $24.99
Jump on these shirts right now if you’re looking to diversify your winter shirt game. Even full price they’re a steal at $49.50, so consider this an opportunity to buy in bulk. A tarton shirt looks great with no tie and a suit for those casual Fridays.
11. Küat Bottle Lock picture – $34
Living in the city, a bike is usually a great method of transportation. The locks, however, can be a pain in the ass — especially if you have one of those 20lbs. bike chains (read: that’s what I have). This is why I love the lock from Küat. It’s self-contained in a water bottle-like contraption and it still gives you the security you need when making a few quick stops.
12. Ebbets US 1934 Tour Of Japan Ballcap – $39
New Eras are great and all, but nothing beats wearing a timeless ballcap like this one from Ebbets. They have some of my favorite caps around, including World War II era caps, the Negro Leagues, and even caps from Cuba’s baseball team (where my family is from). Some of the best vintage-inspired baseball apparel out there so check it out.
13. Marques de Caceres Reserva 2004 – $28.99
There is a time and place for beers and every once in awhile you need a nice red wine to set the mood. The 2004 Reserva from Marques de Caceres is one of my favorites out there. It’s a little expensive, but worth it for the night you need to impress the lady. It’s a rioja, so it’ll taste a little fruity with a subtle earthy, oak taste. It’s a great social wine, not too dry or sweet. Enjoy!
14. Muji Silicon Ice Ball Maker – $11.75
Ice cubes melt proportionally to their surface area. These ice balls allow the smallest surface area for a given volume of ice. What does that mean? Your ice balls won’t water down your whisky or scotch as quickly as cubes. And that’s awesome enough.
15. Cedar Shoe Trees – $20 – $30
If you wear lace-up shoes on a day to day basis, you should have an army of shoe trees to help keep their shape. Not to mention, they do wonders for that rank smell your feet are capable of creating. It’s a low-cost solution to extend the lvies of your best shoes.
