2011 Guyism Holiday Gift Guide – Paul Arnow, Dreams of Perfection
Dreams of Perfection is a blog written by Paul Arnow, a native of Nashville, Tennessee. His love of menswear, traditions, and all things of Southern heritage come through in his writing, When he’s not watching sports or Arrested Development on Netflix, he can be found staring at photos of sport coats on Tumblr. Also check out the other site he helps out with as a local editor, Bearings. And now for the goods!
I love Christmas. Giving always makes you feel good, but let’s be honest, it is nice to receive as well! While my list will always seems to have video games and tickets to hockey games (I may be one of the only Southerners that grew up a hockey fan) on them, these are a few items that I was sure to include this holiday season.
1. Penfield Rockford Down Jacket – $235
This year, I have found a need for a proper winter jacket as I will be spending increased time in the Northeast and the city of Chicago. Having grown up in Tennessee, there really hasn’t been a need for me to own a very warm jacket. So needless to say, I have a winter coat at the top of my list. I’ve been eying the Penfield Rockford Down Jacket currently being sold at Sid Mashburn. Hopefully, it will keep me warm.
2. Sloat Plain Toe Boot in Natural Chromexcel – $480
It’s no secret that Alden makes some damn fine shoes and boots. And Unionmade Goods is one shop that is doing some amazing exclusive collaborations with the shoe company. I’ve been wanting a good, hard-working pair of plain toe boots for sometime. The standard this year seems to have been Wolverine’s 1000 Mile boot, but I really like Alden’s Trubalance last (same last the famous Indy Boot is made on), so I’m leaning towards this boot. That natty chromexcel leather from Horween will age beautifully, and the cork sole will stay tough in wet weather.
3. Striped Wool Blend Blanket Lining Scarf – $127
Lastly, I still need other ways to keep warm this winter. So I’m really wanting a Wool Blanket Lining Scarf from The Hill-Side, which can be found at WHARF Clothing & Wares (among other places). Also made in the USA, it’s just plain good lookin’! So hopefully I’ll be able to wrap that around my neck this winter.freezer.
