Moleskine introduces iPhone app, death of culture as we know it
Moleskine notebooks are by and large an indication of someone being cultured. Or at least that’s what the hipster at your local coffee shop who stares longingly into his barely-marked notebook wants you to believe anyway.
Either way, welcome the potential death of another form of the old-school medium that is the written word with the official Moleskine app for the iPhone and iPad.
Features include:
• Pick a Moleskine notebook paper style: plain, ruled, squared
• Write and edit a text note
• Sketching tool
• Insert and play with your personal images
• Catalogue as many memories as you want with a full range of categories
• Play with images provided by Moleskine
• Geo-tag each note created and create a virtual map of your memories
• Share your notes with friends through email or social networks
But how will this go over with current Moleskine users?
Well, I asked one, the Future Mrs. Brinson.
“THAT DOESN’T MAKE ANY SENSE!” she screamed after making an utterly disgusted face for about 10 seconds. “That’s the stupidest f—ing thing I’ve ever heard.”
I’m going to agree here, because it really doesn’t make any sense. People carry moleskine notebooks because they like to make handwritten notes about their daily life and because they don’t fully embrace the idea of utilizing technology to calendar things, etc.
And all the Moleskine app offers is creation of content and then distribution — which means that it’s basically taking the principles of what an iPhone and an iPad do and condensing them in a less-efficient app.
That being said, at least it’s free, which makes it much better than normal Moleskine, I guess.
