15 best microbrewing cities in America

Travel and Leisure released their list of America’s favorite cities. It factors in a wide range of categories, but one in particular caught my interest – microbrew beers.

As you can see, the results were separated into “Visitor” and “Resident” ratings. This was actually one of the more interesting aspects for me. While 3/4 of the top cities didn’t change, Anchorage, Alaska is ranked 3rd by it’s residents but all the way down at 17 by the visitors. I don’t know if Alaskans are just arrogant about their beer or if the tourists spend too much time foolishly searching for penguins that they fail to appreciate the microbreweries the state has to offer. Anchorage has four of them, so it seems like they’d be tough to miss.

Kansas City, home to Boulevard Brewing among others, has the opposite problem. Visitors seem to love the beer culture, to the tune of 6th overall, but the locals denigrate it all the way to 11th. My best guess is that they’ve expended so much energy trying to convince the world that their BBQ is better than Texas and Memphis that they just don’t have the energy to tout their breweries. Well, I will for you. Boulevard is awesome.

Did your hometown make the cut? Do you think your city got shafted in the survey? Feel free to sound off with your thoughts down below in the comment section. Odds are good you aren’t a lone because I can think of a few great breweries whose cities didn’t make the cut. I have a feeling a certain town in North Caroline is going to be displeased, but unfortunately Asheville wasn’t one of the cities in the survey.

What'd you think of this?
