Are you ready for ‘Rye Whiskey Fridays’?

Colin Joliat Staff Writer

We suffered for most of 2011 listening to Rebecca Black’s “Friday” every week. As much as we tried to avoid it, some jackass always had to post it thinking they were being hilarious. I think we can all agree that they were wrong though. 2012 offers new hope for our weekly Friday traditions, and I think this may be my go-to for the forseeable future. The singing’s not much better, but subject matter certainly is!

We used to sing this song as kids on the bus to vacation bible school. It is so much more interesting than that hackneyed old “99 bottles of beer on the wall…”. I will perform here only eight (prime-numbered) of the twenty verses I’ve posted. (And aren’t you glad?)

Keeping in the spirit of performance for this piece, I’ve been drinking heavily.

If that’s not the greatest hillbilly terrorist you’ve ever seen, then you lead a very questionable life. The overalls, ski mask, and metal guitar simply scream awesomeness. I’m sure he plays a mean dueling banjo too. If you would rather listen to a less brain trauma enducing version, Dave Matthews covered to song as a tribute to Pete Seeger. I’ll be posting a rendition of this song every Friday until I forget about it, so come join the whiskey party.

What'd you think of this?
