BeerText is a new texting service that offers beer advice

If you’ve ever been staring at a beer list wondering what the hell half of them are, you aren’t alone. That problem is a thing of the past though with a new service called BeerText.US.

The appropriately named service will text you background info about most beers. The response contains a profile, a little bit of history and the ABV. Sure, that’s far more than you need to know in order to drink a beer, but we all know what G.I. Joe taught us. My results weren’t that impressive, but it appears to be a fairly new service. For one thing, the auto-reply seemed drunk because the messages came in choppy and out of order. Then it didn’t have what I consider a fairly common craft beer. After a few failures in a row, it just gave up and started pouting.

The number still got saved as a contact by me so I can keep tabs on it. Plus, who better to send a text to than a beer guru? It’s certainly better than yet another pathetic quip to my ex-girlfriend. If you want to give it a shot, the number for BeerText is (315) 679-4711. Regular rates apparently apply, but who doesn’t have an unlimited plan these days?

UPDATE: I had better success, including Dragons Milk, by omitting the brewery name.
