Boston and New York breweries betting on the Super Bowl

We all remember the Patriots’ quest for the perfect season in 2007. You most likely also remember seeing pictures of kids in South America wearing 19-0 t-shirts a few months later courtesy of the New York football Giants.

As a result, I had no idea that a bet between Harpoon Brewery, of Boston, and Brooklyn Brewery took place. I’m used to the standard bet of local flavors between mayors, but there was a lot more at stake in this wager. The losing team had to pour the other’s flagship beer in their taproom for a week. Breweries often have guest taps, but no one wants to have pour opposing pints as punishment. Talk about rubbing bar salt in the wound.

The Patriots and Giants are back in the Super Bowl, and Harpoon is back for more action as well. I like Brooklyn’s attempt to spice things up a bit with pepperoni pants, but in the end the wager is the same. I’m not in either city, so I’ll probably just pick up a six-pack of both and drink based on who scored the most recent TD.
