Bud Ice is now Bud Light Platinum

Colin Joliat Staff Writer

I learned about Bud Light Platinum back in September (how very hipster of me), but there wasn’t a whole lot of information about the product.

Bud Light Platinum 176x214 Bud Ice is now Bud Light PlatinumEarlier this week though the label was approved, which you can see right there on the left. Pretty fancy huh? Unfortunately there is still very limited information about this extension of the Bud Light family. All we know is that it will roll out on January 30th, will be 6% ABV, and will contain 137 calories. Not really much to go on. A bunch of other sites have picked up on the story though, and I don’t want to be left sober. So there you have it. That’s all we know. Aren’t you happy that this news is everywhere?

Somehow people are missing the most obvious connection. It seems as though this new “Bud Light Platinum” is basically just “Bud Ice,” which didn’t work out all that well. Looks at the few pieces of info we have about BLP. Its main selling point is that is contains more alcohol than Budweiser but fewer calories. Sound familiar? That’s exactly how Bud Ice was marketed. And what about the name? I know that “ice” isn’t as popular of a term for jewelry as it was back when the Hot Boyz were writing songs for the Blue Streak soundtrack, but the connection is still most certainly there. Platinum…Ice…you’re not fooling me Budweiser.

I have no clue whether this beer will be good or not, but I’m certainly willing to give it a shot. They claim to be targeting a specific sector of the beer market, and how else would I know if I’m in the demographic? My only hope is that they give up the charade and admit to the Bud Ice ties. That way they can bring back the creepy penguin.
