Budweiser Magnum is somehow the most expensive beer in India
Budweiser Magnum is being positioned as most expensive beer sold in India. Before you throw a shit-fit about that, you should probably know just how extreme the pricing is.
Magnum is an 8% ABV American style lager. They are going to be sold in bombers (22 ounces or 650 ml for you logical system types) for the ridiculously high price of 150 rupees. Just how expensive is that you ask? A whopping $2.73. Wait, what? (Rechecks calculations) If the most expensive beer in India is only $2.73, I’m moving there immediately. I hope Guyism is looking for an international correspondent. The last bomber I bought was $9, and while it was worth every penny, that’s still an incredible price gap.For comparisons sake, the average 650ml beer in India costs between $1-$1.50. That makes Budweiser Magnum double the average. It’s not simply because of alcohol content either. Unlike America, which is full of fat guys drinking light beer, most of India’s consumption falls comes from strong beers (6%-8%). They even refer to beers around 5% ABV as “mild.”
It’s not as if India has a terrible beer scene either. Last year “Australian MAX” was named the world’s best strong lager at the World Beer Awards. Contrary to what the name might suggest, it’s brewed in India, not kangaroo court. Seems to me that the best strong lager in the world should cost more than Budweiser’s strong lager.
